About – Studying Art
Colin McNaught attended Glasgow School of Art,
where he received a Bachelor of Art.He then went on to complete a Post Graduate Master’s Degree.
Founded in 1845 as a Government School of Design,the Glasgow School of Art has grown to become one of the United Kingdom’s pre-eminent institutions for the study and advancement of fine art,design and architecture.
In 1885,the school moved in to a new purpose built building,designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.The history of the school from this point is inextricably linked to Charles Rennie Mackintosh,architect,designer,artist and alumnus,who heralded the birth of a new style in 20th century European architecture with his designs.
The Glasgow School of Art is internationally recognised as one of Europe’s leading university-level institutions for the visual creative disciplines and the school has produced most of Scotland’s leading contemporary artists,including since 2005,30% of Turner Prize nominees and four recent winners.
As one of the oldest art and design institutions in the UK,the Glasgow School of Art is unique in its ability to illustrate the nature and history of art education itself,documents trends,styles and fashions both in the practice and in the education of artists,designers and architects and the important role the School played in this.
